What Is Inground Pool Installation and How Does the Process Work?
Inground pool installation is the process of planning and constructing a permanent swimming pool on your property. It typically involves site evaluation, custom design, permitting, excavation, shell construction, plumbing, electrical work, decking, and water startup. Soil conditions, drainage, access and the shape of the lot all affect how the pool should be built. The right shell type also depends on your budget, timeline and property conditions.

We build gunite, fiberglass and vinyl liner pools, allowing us to recommend the option that best fits your property rather than limiting you to one system. Vinyl is the lowest cost route in, though the liner is a wear item and liner replacement comes round every seven to twelve years. We handle permitting across Lowndes, Lanier, Berrien, Colquitt and Tift counties and include drainage and hydrostatic relief where local conditions require it. A spa raised off the pool wall shares the same plumbing, heater and pad, which costs far less than running a second system. Spillover into the pool is designed in from the first drawing.
Excavation reshapes a yard whether you want it to or not. We regrade, restore turf and plant around the finished pool, choosing species that will not drop leaves or seed pods into the water.
Retaining walls, seat walls and steps do the structural work of holding grade around the shell. On sloped Valdosta lots these often go in during the pool build because the excavation depends on them.
Natural stone features run off the pool’s own circulation, so returns and dedicated lines are set before the shell is poured. Adding one afterward means cutting into finished deck.
Liners are a wear item on any vinyl pool, usually replaced every seven to twelve years. We handle replacements on pools we built and pools we did not, so the pool keeps the same company for life.
Gas, water and power for a kitchen are cheapest to run while the yard is already open for pool plumbing. We rough in the utilities during the build even if you finish the kitchen years later.
Pool lighting, path lighting and landscape lighting run on separate circuits with different code requirements around water. All of it is trenched and bonded while the ground is open.
Fire and water sit well together, but placement matters for smoke drift and code clearance from the pool barrier. We position the pit during design so seating works with the deck layout.
The patio connects the house to the pool and carries most of the foot traffic. We size and slope it to drain away from the shell rather than into it.
Pavers around a pool need a compacted base that accounts for backfill settling near the shell. Done right, individual units can be lifted and reset later instead of demolished.

We pull permits, call in Georgia 811 locates, then dig and build. Shell, plumbing, electrical and decking follow in sequence with inspections at each stage.
Step 3: Startup, Walkthrough and Support
We fill the pool, balance the water and show you how to run everything yourself. Then we stay reachable, usually for decades.

Saltwater pools are not chlorine-free. That stability matters here, because our long hot season and heavy summer rain swing water chemistry hard, and a pool held at the right level constantly is easier on skin, eyes, and swimsuits.
The water reads soft rather than briny, roughly a tenth as salty as the ocean. The trade-offs are real, and we say so upfront: cells need replacing every few years, and salt is mildly corrosive to some stone, metal fixtures, and unsealed coping. We specify materials around the salt from the design stage instead of retrofitting later.

Yes, in most cases. A pool is a permanent improvement, so your county assessor adds it to the property’s fair market value, and Georgia assesses at 40 percent of that value. The amount added is usually well below what you paid to build it. Call your county tax assessor’s office for an estimate if the number matters to your budget.
Fall and winter, if you want to swim next summer. Our mild winters keep crews working, while spring brings a rush of demand and summer thunderstorms stall excavation and concrete work. Starting in October or November usually means the pool is finished before the first warm weekend in April. Waiting until March often means swimming in July.
Not without calling us first. Where the water table is high, and that includes plenty of lots around Valdosta and Lakeland, groundwater pressure under an empty shell can crack the pool or lift it out of the ground. This is why every pool we install has a hydrostatic relief valve. Any full drain needs to be timed for dry conditions with that valve opened correctly.
Georgia’s on site sewage rules set minimum separation distances from both the tank and the absorption field, and county environmental health enforces them. On rural lots around Hahira, Nashville and Moultrie, this often decides where the pool can go before anything else does. We locate the tank and field during the site visit and confirm current setbacks with the county before finalizing a layout.
Budget for electricity, chemicals and water lost to evaporation. The pump is the biggest lever, and a variable-speed unit uses a fraction of the power that an older single-speed pump does at the same turnover. Heating is the other variable, though most owners here only run a heater in early spring and late fall. We size the equipment during design specifically to hold those costs down.
