About Harbin’s Pools

Harbin’s Pools has been building swimming pools in Valdosta since 1972. That is more than five decades in a single market, through every change in construction method, every shift in what homeowners want from a backyard, and a great many competitors who came and went. We build gunite, fiberglass, and vinyl liner pools, and we handle the spa, the deck, the patio, the hardscape, the kitchen, and the lighting.

What we believe is straightforward. A pool is a permanent structure in the ground that has its own rules, and South Georgia ground is nothing like the red clay further north. Sandy loam over clay, a seasonal water table that sits close to the surface in places, and close to 48 inches of rain a year arriving in short violent bursts. Building here properly means planning for all of that before a machine turns up rather than discovering it halfway through an excavation.

Custom Pool Builder

Our Services

Custom gunite, fiberglass and vinyl liner pools designed around your lot rather than pulled from a catalog. We handle design, permitting, excavation, shell, plumbing, equipment and startup with our own crew.

Spillover spas built into the pool structure, and standalone in ground spas for yards without one. Heating, jets and seating sized around who is actually using it.

Plant selection, sod, beds and drainage built for USDA zone 8b conditions and sandy acidic soil. We test the ground before we plant anything in it.

Retaining walls, seat walls, steps, walkways and stone veneer, built on compacted base with drainage designed in. The structural work that everything else in a yard depends on.

Natural boulder features, sculpted artificial rock, grottos and pondless water features. Pumps sized to spillway width and the sound tuned on site before we finish.

Custom measured liners for any vinyl pool in the area, on pools we built and pools we did not. Walls, floor and fittings repaired while the structure is exposed, refilled the same day.

Masonry construction with no wood anywhere in it, outdoor rated appliances and countertops that survive direct sun. Gas, water and power run to code.

Low voltage LED systems in solid brass, covering pool and water feature lighting, path and step safety, and landscape uplighting. Every system aimed after dark.

Wood burning masonry pits with steel inserts and firebrick, gas pits, fire tables and poolside fire bowls. Placement checked against clearance and smoke direction.

Poured and stamped concrete, natural stone, and covered or screened builds. Sized to your furniture and sloped to drain away from the house.

Travertine, concrete, porcelain and brick paver decks with coping, proper base and edge restraint. Overlay work available where existing concrete is still sound.

We pull the permits, do the work with our own crew, and hand it over with a walkthrough. Then we are still here afterward, which is the part that matters most.

FAQs

How much does an inground pool cost in the Valdosta area?

In Valdosta, inground pool costs typically range from $35,000 to $100,000+, depending on the pool type and design. Vinyl liner pools often cost $35,000–$55,000, fiberglass $45,000–$70,000, and gunite $60,000–$100,000+. Excavation, decking, water features, and site conditions can increase the final price.

Do you do the work yourselves or subcontract it out?

We do the pool construction with our own crew, which is the main reason we can stand behind work from decades ago. Licensed electrical and plumbing trades are used where the law requires them, as is standard for any pool builder in Georgia. What we do not do is hand your project to a rotating cast of subcontractors and manage it from a distance, which is a common model and the source of most of the horror stories in this industry.

Can one Custom Pool Builder really handle the pool, the hardscape and the landscaping?

It is how we have always worked, and it removes the biggest headache in a backyard project. When separate contractors handle the pool, the deck and the planting, the utility runs get done twice, the levels rarely line up, and nobody takes responsibility when something does not fit. Doing it under one roof means the gas line for a future kitchen goes in while the ground is already open and the patio drains the same direction as the pool deck.

How far ahead should I book a pool build?

Earlier than most people expect, especially if you want to swim next summer. Demand spikes sharply in spring, so booking in autumn or winter gets you a better position in the schedule and takes advantage of our mild winters, when crews keep working. A build started in October or November is usually finished before the first warm weekend in April. Calling in March generally means swimming in July.

Do you service pools after you build them?

Yes, and we service pools we did not build as well. Liner replacements, equipment work and repairs across the whole service area. This is the part of our business that has kept us here since 1972, and it is the reason we are careful about what goes in the ground in the first place, because in this town we will be the ones getting the call in twenty years.
